Rebels withdraw quietly to southeastern Chad (12.02.2008)
(Quelle: Sudan Tribune) Chadian rebels who tried last week to overthrow president Idriss Deby withdrew quietly to the southeastern border of the country, French general said today. 'They left Mongo (in central Chad) after several days’ occupation and two or three hundred pick-up trucks are headed in single file over several kilometres towards the three-way frontier,' Colonel Paul Perie said.
EU force resumes Chad deployment (12.02.2008)

The EUFOR mission said a military transport plane had arrived in the town of Abeche in eastern Chad, and more would follow in the coming days. Their deployment was delayed when rebels attacked the Chad capital.

(Quelle: BBC) Chad's Prime Minister, Nouradine Delwa Kassire Koumakoye, has said his country cannot absorb any more refugees from the Sudanese region of Darfur. The UN says 12,000 people fled into Chad over the weekend after attacks on villages in Darfur by Sudanese forces pursuing rebel fighters. 'We are simply demanding that they be moved, otherwise we will do it,' Mr Koumakoye said. He accuses Sudan of being behind last week's failed coup attempt by rebels.
Chad imposes curfew as rebels regroup (08.02.2008)
(Quelle: Sudan Tribune) Chad’s government on Thursday slapped a night curfew on Ndjamena and southern provinces as rebels who almost ousted President Idriss Deby Itno regrouped and rearmed after battling for the capital. Deby claims he controls the whole country, but a military source said the rebel alliance driven out of Ndjamena after a heavy weekend of fighting met up with reinforcements about 400 kilometres (250 miles) east of the city.

Maintenant qu'il y a la décision du Conseil de sécurité, il faut laisser le Tchad tranquille.' Soucieux de signifier la rupture avec l'époque des interventions unilatérales, le président français a ajouté : 'On n'est plus dans ce qu'on appelle la Françafrique , il y a des règles internationales, je veux m'y conformer.'

'Today, the city of Ndjamena is under (government) control, at least within a 10-kilometre (six-mile) radius,' French ambassador Bruno Foucher told reporters in Ndjamena.

The 3,500-strong contingent will aim to protect refugees from Darfur and people displaced by internal fighting. France has promised to deploy at least 1,350 troops and the Irish Defence Forces are to send a further 450. The mission which has been delayed several times is due to begin in the coming weeks under a UN mandate.
