The overall situation on Sunday (May 6th) -- as Kosovo Serbs went to the polls to vote in presidential and general elections -- remained calm, although Kosovo Police, EULEX and KFOR increased their presence in the north and in some other areas in Kosovo, including Pristina.

 


German government extends troops' mandate in Kosovo (03.05.2012)

The German government decided on Wednesday to extend the mandate of the country's troops as part of KFOR troops in Kosovo for another year. The extended mandate maintains the limit on the number of German army soldiers who can be deployed to the former Serbian province at 1,850.

The KSF may soon take part in NATO-led missions in Libya and Afghanistan. While the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) conducts crisis response operations domestically and abroad, it does not have the status of an army. Serbs in northern Kosovo are continuing their mass boycott of Jarinje and Brnjak, the two official checkpoints between Kosovo and central Serbia. This comes despite the announcement on Monday by the EU mission in the province, EULEX, that administrative line crossings were "open to commercial and non-commercial traffic".
