OSCE Brokers Funds to Help Rehabilitate the Zone of the Georgian-Ossetian Conflict (02.02.2004)

(Quelle: OSCE) Several new projects to help in rehabilitating the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone will be financed under a 2.5 million euros grant from the European Commission brokered by the OSCE Mission to Georgia. The parties to the Georgian-Ossetian conflict signed in Tskhinvali on 31 January a Memorandum of Understanding on rehabilitation projects in the zone of conflict.

 


Tbilisi Opposes Extension of UN Mission to Georgia (30.01.2004)

But Georgian officials have complained that the draft resolution renewing the mission reflects little of its concerns over delays in the peace process and Russian support for Abkhaz separatists. ODIHR Issues Final Reports on Elections in Georgia and Russia (30.01.2004)

Security Council Extends Georgia Mission until 31 July 2004 (30.01.2004)

In Anwesenheit von Gästen aus über 20 Ländern, zu denen auch die Außenminister Russlands und der USA gehörten, bekräftigte Saakaschwili in Tiflis den 'unbeirrbaren Kurs Georgiens auf Integration in Europa'.

 


OSCE Ready to Assist Georgia in Reforms (26.01.2004)

'The OSCE is already in discussions with the Georgian authorities on how we can help with some of the key challenges that lie ahead,' Minister Passy said. Kofi Annan, Saakashvili Discussed Abkhaz Issue (23.01.2004)

In Troublesome Georgian Province, Fears Grow admidst Deep Discord (21.01.2004)

When Shevardnadze agreed to step aside, Ajarian strongman Aslan Abashidze threatened to boycott ensuing elections. Though he withdrew this threat, Abashidze reintroduced a 'state of emergency' shortly after the January 4 election. His insistence on grasping power has raised fears that his regime will not end as peacefully as Shevardnadze’s did.

 


Tbilisi, Sukhumi Agreed on Security Measures (20.01.2004)

The main item on the agenda was the review of the implementation of the Gali Protocol of 8 October 2003. Discussions focused on measures taken to defuse tension in the conflict zone and ways for improvement of the efficiency of existing security mechanisms.

Die Wahlbeteiligung lag nach Angaben der Zentralen Wahlkommission in Tiflis bei 88 Prozent. Wegen logistischer Probleme hatte sich die Bekanntgabe des offiziellen Endergebnisses der Wahl vom 4. Januar mehrfach verzögert.

Die Amerikaner und auch die Europäer haben mehrfach darauf hingewiesen, wie wichtig das für die europäische Sicherheitsstruktur wäre. ... Doch Russland sperrt sich. ... Washington Willing to Finance Russian Troop Withdrawal (13.01.2004)

Thus, the March 28 repeat parliamentary elections will be held only under the party-list system to compose remaining 150 seats in the new Parliament.

Unzufriedenheit mit adscharischer Führung wächst (17.12.2003)

Januar führt zu immer mehr Unzufriedenheit unter den Bewohnern der Autonomen Republik Adscharien. Nach Protesten gegen Aslan Abaschidse (Führer Adschariens - MD) an der staatlichen Universität von Batumi haben Studenten nunmehr mit der Sammlung von Unterschriften begonnen, mit denen gefordert wird, dass die Präsidentschaftswahlen auch in Adscharien stattfinden.

 


OSCE to Send over 450 Observers (15.12.2003)
