Third Peer Coaching „Mediation and Diplomacy“

For the third time, ZIF broad together high-level diplomats from the Federal Foreign Office, members of the German Parliament and well-known international peace mediators for the peer coaching “Mediation and Diplomacy” at Schloss & Gut Liebenberg.

For two days the participants shared experiences and challenges as well as new findings and achievements in international peace mediation and worked on concrete case studies.

Ambassador Birgitta Holst Alani, experienced diplomat, mediator and member of the Swedish Women Mediation Network, Ambassador Dr Günther Bächler, special representative of the OSCE in South Caucasus, as well as Enrico Formica, Senior Mediation Officer at the UN-Office in Geneva exchanged experiences in mediation from all over the world – from Syria and Libya to Nepal, Palestine and South Sudan to Georgia – with their German colleagues.

Additionally, ambassador Haile Menkerios, special representative of the UN at the African Union and director of the UN-Office at the AU, shared the experiences of his long-time involvement as a mediator on the African continent. Interactive and participative methods as well as the core of the peer coaching – one-to-one sessions – completed the two days at Schloss & Gut Liebenberg.
