NATO "Meritorious Medal" for ZIF expert Swen Dornig

For his efforts and work on the protection of children in armed conflicts in Afghanistan, Swen Dornig, member of ZIF's personnel roster, has been awarded with the NATO Meritous Service Medal by NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg.

From 2016 to 2018, Swen Dornig has served as Senior Adviser on Children and Armed Conflict for the NATO-Mission "Resolute Support" in Afghanistan - one of the very few seconded civilian experts to NATO. It had been the first time that NATO created such a post and hence strengthened its commitment to this topic.

Swen Dornig is now working at the NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Mons on Human Rights issues and the development of NATO structures for a better protection of children and civilians in armed conflicts. Before his deployment to Afghanistan, he worked for the German Institute for Security and International Affairs (SWP) and the Permanent Mission of Liechtenstein to the UN. He holds a masters degree in Peace and Conflict Studies.

ZIF congratulates Swen Dornig and thanks for his commitment.
