OCHA-course on "Preparedness and Response Effectiveness Programme" (PREP) from 17 to 22 September in Berlin

From 17 to 22 September 2017, ZIF hosted the "Preparedness and Response Effectiveness Programme" (PREP) course from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Berlin. Twenty-one participants from different local humanitarian agencies, Stand-By Partner organizations, international humanitarian NGOs, UN and EU humanitarian agencies and the military attended this course, which had been developed in 2015 from OCHA in response to demands from the field.

Since 2011 ZIF has been collaborating with OCHA within the framework of the Stand-By Partnership Programme. This collaboration entails the deployment of qualified experts on an ad hoc basis to humanitarian crisis areas as well as the support of the training activities. Through the support of training courses conducted by OCHA, ZIF indirectly contributes to improving the efficiency in complex humanitarian emergencies in the field. Since its beginning, the cooperation between OCHA and ZIF has been politically and financially supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.

The PREP training aims to improve the interoperability and coherence among the diverse actors in humanitarian crises through strengthening and deepening the knowledge and skills of humanitarian personnel with practical advice and tools. Topics covered include "Humanitarian Response Environment", "Mapping Key Emergency Responders", "Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination", "Information Management & Sharing", "Coordinated Assessment", and "Protection of Civilians". The five trainers from OCHA as well as the diverse and heterogeneous group of participants provided a very dynamic and positive course atmosphere.
