How Populism could affect EU missions



In a new opinion piece for EUobserver, Tobias Pietz comments on the recent political pressure on Operation Sophia by the Italian Minister of Interior and what that could mean for other EU missions. Unfortunately, instead of arguing against such pressure, it seems as if the EU and some member states are rather trying to "sell' European external action in Italy, Austria, Poland and Hungary as a key to solving internal issues – which might pull these missions even deeper into today's populist debates.
