Elections “Fell Short of International Standards”, Says ODIHR (01.08.2003)

(Quelle: osce.org) Serious efforts must be made to improve the legal framework and conduct of elections in Armenia if public confidence in the electoral process there is to be restored, says the final report on the 25 May parliamentary elections issued by the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).

 


OSCE to Assist Armenian Police (29.07.2003)

(Quelle: osce.org) A Memorandum of Understanding launching a major OSCE Police Assistance Programme in Armenia was signed today between the Armenian Police Service and the OSCE Office in Yerevan. The signing ceremony comes after a visit in June by the OSCE's Senior Police Adviser, Richard Monk, and a follow-up trip by experts from the Organization's Strategic Police Matters Unit (SPMU) in Vienna.

 


Tensions with Azerbaijan (29.07.2003)

OSCE Urges Armenia to Reform Electoral System (23.07.2003)

(Quelle: RFERL) During talks in Yerevan on 21-22 July, Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian and other senior officials assured visiting OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Vice President Giovanni Kessler and Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Director Christian Strohal that the Armenian authorities will implement a sweeping reform of the election system, RFE/RL's Yerevan bureau reported.

 


Opposition Appeals Election Results (07.07.2003)

(Quelle: RFERL) The Constitutional Court began on 3 July hearing an appeal by the opposition Artarutiun election bloc challenging the official results of the 25 May parliamentary election. … Leading members of Artarutiun claim the Central Election Commission deliberately falsified the outcome of the ballot in which, they claim, Artarutiun won over 50 percent of the proportional vote rather than 14 percent as shown by the official returns.
