Conference Report on “Chieftaincy Conflicts“

11.10.2011

The Ghana National House of Chiefs (NHC) and ZIF published a conference report on “Sources and Settlement of Chieftaincy and Land Conflicts” in a special edition of the official NHC publication Chieftaincy Bulletin.

The report documents and summarizes the proceedings of a joint ZIF/NHC conference that took place in Accra in June 2010. Over 40 traditional chiefs and both Ghanaian and international experts discussed the reasons for current succession and resource distribution conflicts in Ghana and searched for ways to settle them peacefully and to initiate the required institutional reforms in the traditional sector. The conference was part of the ZIF Rule of Law Project and was hosted by the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC).
