Roadmap for Somalia

ZIF visits the UN Political Office for Somalia

ZIF director Almut Wieland-Karimi visited one of ZIF’s partner institutions, the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Nairobi. ZIF organized and implemented a first Rule of Law training course in Nairobi in spring 2011 together with IPSTC, run by the Kenyan Army.
 
Furthermore, she met with German civilian experts and representatives of the UN’s Political Office for Somalia, currently located in Kenya due to security reasons. In her meeting with UNPOS Deputy SRSG Christian Manahl, she discussed the Roadmap for Somalia of September 2011. It contains fairly ambitious aims to be achieved until the end of the transition period in summer 2012 – e.g. the preparation of elections in Somalia.

Additional talks were held with the director of UNSOA, the UN Support Mission for AMISOM, AU’s peace operation in Somalia, as well as representatives of the Worldbank which is currently involved in the transition process in Somalia.
