Public Information

The consent and support of the local population are imperative for a successful peace operation. The public information department of a peace operation contributes to such a popular buy-in by continuously communicating the mission’s mandate and goals and thus creating transparency and credibility. The provision of comprehensive information is particularly important in situations where activities can only be carried out with the active engagement of the local people.

Ideally, a peace operation can work through their own media infrastructure (radio, television, print media). Alternatively, local capacities can be utilized, for example, through the provision of broadcasting time in local radio and television stations.

The public information department is also responsible for informing the international public on events and programs of the operation. A close collaboration with international media is paramount in this regard.
