ZIF is the central point of contact for German civilian professionals in international peace operations and election observation missions – before, during, and after deployment. As an agency of the German Federal Government, ZIF assists the Federal Foreign Office in selecting, placing, preparing, and supporting personnel for missions of the European Union (EU), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the United Nations (UN), among others, as well as for EU and OSCE election observation missions.
Since 2002 ZIF has developed an extensive civilian expert roster currently comprising over 1000 members. Only German members of the ZIF expert roster can be recruited by ZIF for international peace operations or election observation missions. There are constantly over 200 German civilian experts in missions worldwide.
