ZIF, together with the OSCE SMM in Ukraine, conducted a workshop in Kiev, Ukraine, on 20 February to support the SMM leadership in better integrating a gender perspective into their work and into the work of the monitors.

25 members of the SMM leadership and management level (Chief Monitor and Deputy Chief Monitor, Chief of Staff, Heads of Units and Team Leader) worked out how the gender perspective can be better taken into account both internally and in the field work, i.e. monitoring. It was particularly important to work out tangible ideas as to how this integration of a gender perspective into the work of the mission could look like.

The background to the workshop was the wish of the OSCE Secretary-General, Thomas Greminger, to intensify co-operation between OSCE participating States and the SMM in order to better integrate important issues - such as gender - into the work of the Mission.

The workshop was conducted by Anna von Gall and Volker Jacoby.
