How a Focus on Migration Could Weaken the EU’s Crisis Management Missions: Op-Ed for World Politics Review


In an article for World Politics Review, Tobias Pietz, Deputy Head of ZIF’s Analysis Division argues that the repurposing of missions under the EU’s Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) to work on issues such as migration control and border management could weaken these missions in the long run. A recent reform agenda called the Civilian CSDP Compact could further this trend and will be decided upon by EU member states at the end of 2018.
