Environment

Over the past years, the environmental dimension of conflicts has increasingly been incorporated into the agenda of international organisations. The corresponding activities aim to mitigate conflicts by dealing with environmental problems and increasing transnational cooperation on these issues.

You can expect to be involved in the following tasks:

• Ensuring compliance with guidelines on the (unintended) environmental impact of peace operations;
• Monitoring and documenting the environmental impact of violent conflicts;
• Monitoring the consequences of interventions for the natural environment and developing strategies to combat environmental problems;
• Providing support in the establishment of (transnational) cooperation efforts to reduce conflict potential;
• Assessing climate risks;
• Providing support to the establishment of adequate management strategies.
