Women, Peace and Security

The agenda “Woman, Peace and Security” covers the implementation of UN resolution 1325 and its seven follow-up resolutions. International organisations are committed to incorporating a gender perspective in peace operations, both within the structures of the respective mission as well as in its programmatic activities. As part of this agenda, the share of women in peace operations is to be increased, while incidents of sexual abuse are to be eliminated. In addition, the incorporation of women’s rights organisations is explicitly called for in civil society participation. Increasingly, women are to be included in peace negotiations and mediation efforts and are to have a fixed place at negotiation tables from the outset of a peace process.

You can expect to be involved in the following tasks:

  • Actively committing to greater participation by women;
  • Contributing to the long-term integration of a gender perspective into the work of the mission, as well as in political processes in the host country;
  • Combating sexual and gender-based violence (e.g. as women’s protection advisor);
  • Supporting the establishment of an association for women in the security sector;
  • Developing dialogue forums for women.
