On 11 December 2023, the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) signed a secondment agreement at the Federal Foreign Office. This means that humanitarian experts from the ZIF Expert Pool can be seconded to IOM missions in future.

The IOM is part of the United Nations (UN) system and supports migrants all over the world. It is represented in over 100 countries and supports 175 member states in improving migration management. This is ZIF's sixth humanitarian partnership with a UN organization. These humanitarian partnerships began in 2019 with the renewal of the Standby Agreement with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA). Since then, ZIF has concluded agreements with the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

"ZIF is more than just peace operations," says Dr. Astrid Irrgang, ZIF Executive Director. "Humanitarian aid is urgently needed in light of the many global crises and conflicts. Successful peace and development cooperation can only be established where basic humanitarian needs are met. With our expertise in seconding civilians, we are therefore pleased to be able to support the work of the IOM with personnel in the future."
