The Future of EU Crisis Management Missions: New Comment at EUObserver

In a new comment at the EUObserver, Tobias Pietz argues that the Portuguese EU Presidency in the first half of 2021 should come up with some bold proposals on how to strengthen the EU’s civilian missions and military operations. More than two decades ago, under another EU Presidency, Portugal inspired some key developments in this field. It is about time to revive that spirit. The current discussion of a “Strategic Compass” for the EU’s Foreign and Defence Policy might offer a unique opportunity to do so.
