How must peace operations change in the face of new drivers and new types of conflict and an increasingly polarized political environment? And how can the New Agenda for Peace create a solid foundation for future peace operations?

Together with 60 participants – representing UN-leadership, the Berlin think tank community and the Federal Foreign Office – our four panelists USG Jean-Pierre Lacroix (UN Department of Peace Operations), Günter Sautter (Head of Department for International Order, United Nations and Arms Control in the German Federal Foreign Office), SRSG Bintou Keita (MONUSCO) and SRSG El-Ghassim Wane (MINUSMA) discussed the need to meet current challenges and how the New Agenda for Peace can contribute to moving peace operations forward.

The ZIF Breakfast Briefing was organized in conjunction with the annual SRSG Retreat on Action for Peacekeeping (A4P+) that took place on 08-09 May 2023 in Berlin, financed by the Federal Foreign Office.
