Course Description

Within the fragile contexts of peacebuilding and conflict transformation the ability to contribute to stabilisation is strongly related to the ability of addressing stress and traumatisation of people affected by violence, as well as staff members and organisations itself.

The course aims to establish and deepen an understanding of trauma sensitivity for international and national experts involved in civilian conflict management and peacebuilding.

Stress- and trauma-sensitivity is another crucial cross cutting perspective for international engagement, from which everyone, whether being affected by violence or not, can benefit: It will make any conflict analysis, advisory or monitoring work, recruitment processes as well as team dynamics in general more inclusive and effective.Furthermore, stress- and trauma-sensitivity as an attitude and professional practice can help balancing and stabilising towards wellbeing of oneself, teams and target groups.

The course will be delivered in close cooperation with medica mondiale. The STA - Stress and Trauma-sensitive Approach by medica mondiale together with core provides a practical orientation to put into practice stress- and trauma-sensitive practices with target groups, partners, staff (members), teams and organisations. This includes the impact of trauma dynamics on staff and teams. In the training, guidance is provided on how teams, projects and individual practitioners can integrate stress- and trauma-sensitivity into their activities and programmes.

The remote course encompasses four online live sessions. In between the online live sessions self-paced learning (individual and in small groups) will build on further knowledge and reflection.

ZIF Trainings:

ZIF trainings are practice-oriented and reflect the operational reality of peace operations and (post-)conflict areas through exercises, role plays and scenario-based courses. Moreover, our trainings focus on the main areas of competence outlined in the ZIF Concept “Civilian Expert”. Additionally, we base our courses on contemporary concepts of adult education and peer learning. We try to create a joint learning space in which participants and the training team can exchange freely and critically, and which provides room for self-reflection. Another important goal of our courses is to encourage a change of perspective. One way of achieving this is by mainstreaming the comprehensive approach (civilian, police, military), which is made possible through our cooperation within the German Training Partner Platform.

Logistics

The remote course will be held via zoom, using different software applications as miro, blink-it...

A voluntary teck check will be offered few days prior to the first live session.
