About

Dr Wibke Hansen has been Senior Advisor to the Management Board at ZIF since 2024. She has been researching, advising and working on international crisis management and peacebuilding for over twenty years. Wibke Hansen was part of ZIF's preparatory team in 2001 and started in the Analysis Division after its foundation, which she headed for over 10 years. From 2012 to 2014 she was also Deputy Director of ZIF. 

Wibke Hansen has worked for the UN on several occasions. Between 2007 and 2011, she worked for the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) in various positions, including as special assistant to the SRSG. Until 2024, Wibke Hansen was Senior Peacebuilding Advisor at UNDP Sudan. 

In previous positions, she coordinated projects for the German Red Cross and the Institute for Peace and Democracy at the University of Hagen. As a Fellow of the Foundation College for International Affairs, she worked for the OSCE and the UN Mission in Kosovo, among others. Dr Hansen holds a doctorate in peace operations and organised crime in fragile states and master's degrees in political science, English philology, sociology and peace studies.
