Border Management

Deployment on and around borders is one of the traditional tasks of peace operations. Today, peace operations participate actively in controlling and monitoring borders and in building capacity for border management and protection. They also conduct confidence-building measures in border areas.

You can expect to be involved in the following tasks:

  • Monitoring ceasefire lines or disputed border areas or disputed border regions;
  • Observing borders and participating in early-warning systems;
  • Reporting on movements of persons and vehicles across borders;
  • Providing support to capacity-building in the area of border management and protection;
  • Conducting confidence-building measures in border regions;
  • Providing support for national police and border services through training in the field of border management and protection;
  • Advising on the development of concepts of integrated border management;
  • Advising host governments on compliance with European standards for customs and border controls;
  • Providing support for the resumption of regular border traffic.
