Mine Action and Arms Control

The mandated tasks in the area of mine action and handling explosive remnants of war have been greatly expanded over the past years, and have been supplemented by aspects of arms control. On the one hand, there is a focus on other explosive remnants of war such as weapons and ammunition. On the other hand, the priority is no longer merely on mine clearance, but also on drafting technical assessments, education and building local capacities.

You can expect to be involved in the following tasks:

  • Providing support to landmine clearance through marking or clearing hazardous areas;
  • Providing support toward building local capacities, including in the area of bomb disposal, handling of dangerous chemicals or the proper storage of weapons.
  • Assisting in securing roads for civilian use;
  • Developing and implementing measures to build public awareness on the danger of mines and educate the local population.
  • Providing support to the destruction of arsenals and the management of arms and ammunition;
  • Providing support to the establishment of national standards.
