The grouping, which has previously focused on economic issues, called for an end to ‘war crimes’ in the Gaza conflict.

The Council “calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups, especially children.

United Nations workers observed a minute’s silence on Monday (13 November) to honour the more than 100 employees killed in Gaza since the Israel-Hamas war began last month, the largest toll of humanitarian workers in the organisation’s 78-year history.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights reiterated the call for an urgent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas during a visit to the Rafah crossing and El Arish Hospital in Egypt on Wednesday. 

Gaza might become an international protectorate after the war, the EU has said, adding that neither Palestinian group Hamas nor Israel should ever rule there again.
