Guterres demands immediate release of UN staff and others detained in Yemen

UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on Monday for Houthi rebels in Yemen to immediately and unconditionally release UN staff, humanitarians, diplomatic personnel and others who have been detained for more than two months.

UN rights chief condemns storming of his office in Yemen’s capital

The UN human rights chief has strongly condemned the recent storming of his team’s headquarters in Sana’a, Yemen, by the de facto authorities Ansar Allah, and renewed his call for the immediate and unconditional release of all UN staff detained in the country. … Those being held include 13 UN staff, including six employees of the UN human rights office, more than 50 NGO workers, and an embassy staff member.

U.S. strikes at Houthi targets in Yemen after claim of attack on destroyers

U.S. military forces have struck at targets in Houthi-controlled Yemen in the past 24 hours, destroying two drones, a Houthi ground control station, and three anti-ship cruise missiles, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said. Earlier, the Iran-aligned Houthi movement said it had attacked a container ship in the Red Sea and two U.S. destroyers in the Gulf of Aden on Wednesday.

UN envoy warns of threat of return to ‘full-fledged war’ as regional tensions escalate

UN pressing for release of staff detained in Yemen

The UN human rights office (OHCHR) remains “extremely worried” for the well-being of 13 UN staff and a number of NGO employees arbitrarily detained in Yemen, spokesperson Jeremy Laurence said on Tuesday, demanding their unconditional release.

Security Council extends mandate of UNMHA for 12 months,

The Security Council today decided to extend, until 14 July 2025, the mandate of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA), which was established on 16 January 2019 following intra-Yemeni peace consultations held in Stockholm, Sweden.

Leaders of UN and aid groups urge immediate release of 17 staffers being held by Yemen’s rebels

The heads of six U.N. agencies and three international humanitarian organizations issued a joint appeal Thursday to Yemen’s Houthi rebels for the immediate release of 17 members of their staff who were recently detained along with many others also being held by the Iranian-backed group.

Security Council: ‘Risky military adventurism’ could push Yemen into new cycle of war
