#ZIF20: Two decades of commitment to peace

| ZIF news

ZIF at 20: Two decades of commitment to peace – this is the slogan to celebrate the 20th birthday of ZIF. The anniversary festivities will be accompanied by a social media campaign #ZIF20 throughout the entire year by featuring insights and impressions of past and present projects. The main event will be an official celebration in June which includes a speech by Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.

To highlight the occasion, ZIF has launched a website dedicated to “ZIF at 20”. The site features an anniversary message by ZIF’s Executive Director, Dr. Almut Wieland-Karimi, as well as important milestones in ZIF’s history and a growing series with intro- and retrospectives.

The Berlin Center for International Peace Operations was established in 2002 by the Federal Government of Germany and the German Parliament to strengthen international civilian capacities for crisis prevention, conflict resolution and peacebuilding. In 2017, ZIF became the employer of German civilian experts sent to missions abroad due to the reformed Secondment Act. Today, ZIF, with its roughly 80 employees in Berlin as well as over 190 secondees in international peace operations and on average 300 elections observers per year, is established as a major pillar of civilian crisis management.
