Day of the Peacekeeper 2021
On the occasion of the eighth Day of the Peacekeeper, the Federal Ministry of Defense, the Federal Foreign Office together with ZIF and the Federal Ministry of the Interior honored the members of the German Armed Forces, the German police and civilian experts currently serving in peace operations abroad. The event took place in a digital format and was hosted by the Federal Ministry of Defense – hosting rotates each year.
Representing all German peacekeepers abroad, one member of the Armed Forces, the police and one civilian expert were awarded, respectively. This year Senior Chief Petty Officer Michael Pantke (MINUSMA/Mali), Chief Inspector Axel Rehbehn (UNSOM/Somalia) and civilian expert Annett Gerber (OSCE SMM/Ukraine) were honored for their work.
The three honorees were called in virtually from their areas of operation. Minister of Defense Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer opened the event with a welcome speech.
