ZIF for Climate Security in Peace Operations

| ZIF news

ZIF is cohosting the Challenges Annual Fourm (CAF) 2021 from December 1st to December 3rd in Berlin. After meeting only digitally at year’s event, CAF 2021 will be hosted as a hybrid event – mixing online engagement with face-to-face formats. CAF serves a cooperative and international platform for dialogue in Peace Operations and connects experts from 50 organizations and 24 countries.

Centering climate security in peace operations at this year’s CAF, the participants will discuss how issues of climate and environmental protection may be implemented in missions’ mandates. The aim of the three-day conference is to debate how Climate Security can successfully be integrated in day-to-day processes of Peace Operations as well as to sensitize key stakeholders for the issue.

“Member states need to understand how climate change is impacting peace operations and their security and peace context”, says Tobias Pietz, Deputy Head of Analysis. “The Challenges Annual Forum presents the perfect opportunity to discuss these questions since member states as well as climate and UN experts meet on a level playing field.”
