On 26 June, the Effectiveness of Peace Operations Network (EPON) and NORCAP, part of the Norwegian Refugee Council, presented an in-depth study on the implementation of a key mandated task of UN peacekeeping operations: Protection of Civilians. For ZIF – one of over 40 partners within EPON, Tobias von Gienanth co-wrote the chapter on MINUSMA. The authors conducted of 100 interviews with staff of the operations in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA, the Congo (MONUSCO), Mali (MINUSMA) and South Sudan (UNMISS). In the resulting report they identify common trends and challenges and develop recommendations.
