EUISS-Brief | The impact of Covid-19 on CSDP

CSDP missions and operations, including the steering bodies in Brussels, were severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in spring of 2020. Within the first eight weeks, almost half of the deployed personnel were evacuated. In this EUISS brief, Tobias Pietz describes what happened to CSDP at the outset of the pandemic, and tries to shed light on the impact that Covid-19 has had on EU missions and what lessons can be drawn from the experiences so far.
