ZIF visits the OSCE Mission to Moldova

One of the first field trips after the COVID-related travel restrictions were lifted brought ZIF to the Republic of Moldova. A ZIF delegation travelled to the troubled country which shares a border with Romania and Ukraine. The crisis to its east sent large numbers of refugees to Moldova, one of Europe’s poorest nations. The situation is exacerbated further by continued Russian support for the breakaway region Transnistria. Many fear that Russia’s war against Ukraine might yet engulf the neighboring country.
After talks with the Head of Mission, the seconded staff to the OSCE as well as in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and with community representatives, the ZIF delegation took away one overwhelming message: No one, neither in Moldova, nor in Transnistria, wants war.
