New ZIF Briefing: „Peace Operations in Complex Environments”

In late July, ZIF and the UN Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) organized a joint Berlin Expert Dialogue on “Dealing with Armed Groups Designated as Terrorist Organizations (AGDTOs)”. Its findings and recommendations are summarized in a “ZIF Briefing” co-authored by OROLSI and ZIF personnel. They include the necessity to better understand motivations for recruitment, ways to protect humanitarian actors working in areas controlled by such groups and the potential of transitional justice mechanisms for reconciliation and the reintegration of ex-combatants. This publication also signals the introduction of a new format for ZIF products.
