In an opinion piece for the ipg-journal, our analysts Annika S. Hansen and Tobias von Gienanth warn against drawing hasty lessons after the Taliban took power in Afghanistan. In particular, they argue that demands for an early withdrawal from Mali are undifferentiated. In view of the diversity of peace operations and their continued important contribution in many places, for example to civilian protection, it is important to consider key factors of success. Germany should continue to support these efforts, even if the environment is highly complex and success cannot guaranteed.
