OSCE: Lessons from the Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine

A recent publication of the OSCE Network of Think Tanks and Academic Institutions reflects on the effects of Russia’s war against Ukraine on the future activities of the OSCE. In his contribution, Andreas Wittkowsky argues that the OSCE should prepare for a scenario demanding another substantial monitoring mission in the region. Therefore it is the right time to systematically evaluate the experiences of the SMM and learn the lessons of the obstacles which had hampered the mission throughout its deployment.
