For the second time, ZIF is partnering up with the Berlin Climate Security Conference (BCSC), one of the most important platforms for the exchange on the effects of climate change and environmental degradation on crises and conflicts - and how the international community responds to them. This year, the German government used the conference to launch its Climate4Peace initiative, which was developed as part of Germany's 2022 G7 presidency.

ZIF organized a roundtable again this year, this time on the topic of "Green(ing) EU Crisis Management". Colleagues from the European External Action Service and the European Commission discussed the status of European efforts to integrate environmental security and climate security more strongly in the analysis, mandating, and project implementation of EU missions (civilian and military), also with the help of consultants. ZIF is currently sending such a consultant to the European Mission EUCAP Sahel Niger.

For the past three years, ZIF has been working on this topic in an interdisciplinary way. In addition to publications and workshops, a pilot course will be held in November with our close partner adelphi.
