With the participation of Stefan Tomat, Director of the EU EEAS "Directorate for the Integrated Approach for Security and Peace (ISP)" and ZIF's Deputy Director, Astrid Irrgang, the two-week Peer Coaching Seminar "Mediation Diplomacy in the Context of EU Common Foreign Policy" was brought to a successful conclusion on 27 November. The fourth event in the series of seminars, which ZIF has been conducting in close cooperation with the EEAS since 2017, had the special feature that it took place digitally for the first time. In this format, too, the participating heads of EU delegations, who joined directly from various fragile country contexts, exchanged views on mediation challenges in in-depth discussions and peer deliberations. The peer exchange was enriched by contributions from international mediation experts on topics such as national dialogue, transitional justice, ceasefire negotiations, digital mediation and the implementation of peace agreements. In addition, Sir Robert Cooper, as a special guest, shared his experience as EU mediator in the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina in 2011.
