ZIF Panel at the EU Community of Practice on Peace Mediation

With the thematic focus on "Mediation in a difficult international environment: building partnerships for sustainable peace", this year's EU Community of Practice on Peace Mediation was held in a hybrid format. ZIF participated with the high-level panel "CSDP Missions in Support of Peace Mediation Operations: Roles, contributions and their operationalization." Drawing from their experiences in the field, Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, Head of EUMM Georgia, Maja Sverdrup, Deputy Head of EUCAP Sahel Mali and Dr. Fabian Loewenberg, Deputy Head of EUCAP Somalia illustrated the essential role their missions play in supporting conflict prevention and crisis management efforts. In addition, the panelists formulated recommendations for EU Member States and the EU planning level to further operationalize these activities, especially at the local level, and to further enhance potential contributions.
