Nutrition Expert

More than 800 million people are affected by food insecurity and severe health consequences resulting therefrom around the world. The Sustainable Development Goal 2 aims at eradicating hunger.

In many humanitarian crises, people rely on support to prevent food insecurity and malnutrition. Nutritionists therefore collect data on the nutrition status of crisis-affected populations. This may include comprehensive needs assessments in collaboration with multiple partners within the Nutrition Cluster.

Seconded nutrition experts advise UN partner organizations on how to improve the nutritional status of the people in need. They support UN partners in planning, implementing and monitoring food security programs. In doing so, they pay special attention to supporting the most vulnerable.

Nutrition experts possess in-depth knowledge of key food sources and nutrient contents and are able to plan and guide needs assessment processes. They furthermore ensure that nutrition programmes meet cultural and religious needs as well as the beneficiaries’ preferences.

During their deployment, nutrition experts often collaborate with national and local actors to establish longer-term national nutrition programmes tailored at specific beneficiary groups.

This call is directed at individuals with a strong background in emergency nutrition as well as persons with a background in nutrition activities in development assistance.
