Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Officer

GIS Officers plan, prepare and produce maps and other geo-based products. They visualise data and information to support humanitarian actors responding to humanitarian needs through evidence-based decision-making.

Cleaning, storing and sharing data also forms part of their portfolio. In addition, they ensure that mapping standards are adhered to and common operational datasets are used.

GIS Officers pay particular attention to data protection and political sensitivity.   
 

Specific profile requirements for GIS Officers

  • Preferably a university degree or completed vocational training in social sciences, statistics, demography, geography or related field;
  • Knowledge of the humanitarian system;
  • Working experience in an international organisation is preferred;
  • Sound Knowledge of ArcGIS and MapInfo.
