Sudan war intensifying with devastating consequences for civilians, UN Fact-Finding Mission says

The Fact-Finding Mission, which will present its latest findings to the Human Rights Council in Geneva today, has documented increased use of heavy weaponry in populated areas and a sharp rise in sexual and gender-based violence. It said humanitarian relief is being weaponized and hospitals and medical facilities are under siege.

Sudanese army accuses Libya's Haftar forces of border attack

The Sudanese army accused forces under eastern Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar of attacking border posts on Tuesday, the first time it has accused its northwestern neighbour of direct involvement in the country's two-year war.

Five humanitarians killed in ‘horrendous’ attack on aid convoy in Sudan

An aid convoy carrying life-saving assistance for the famine-affected area of North Darfur, Sudan, was attacked on Monday night, killing five humanitarian workers, injuring many more and damaging critical humanitarian supplies. The World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) condemned the attack on the joint humanitarian convoy and reminded the international community that under humanitarian law, aid must be able to move securely.

More than 4 million refugees have fled Sudan civil war, UN says

The number of people who have fled Sudan since the beginning of its civil war in 2023 has surpassed four million, U.N. refugee agency officials said on Tuesday, adding that many survivors faced inadequate shelter due to funding shortages.

US says Sudan used chemical weapons in war as it issues new sanctions

The US will impose new sanctions on Sudan after finding it used chemical weapons last year in the ongoing civil war against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the state department has said.
US exports to the country will be restricted and financial borrowing limits put in place from 6 June, a statement from spokesperson Tammy Bruce read.

AU, IGAD plan new Sudan mechanism – sources

The African Union (AU) Commission and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) are working with United Nations officials to establish a new mechanism to address the conflict in Sudan, sources within the AU told Sudan Tribune. The new body would be chaired by IGAD.

Sudan army says Khartoum state ‘completely free’ of paramilitaries

The Sudanese army said on Tuesday it had dislodged rival paramilitaries from their last positions in Omdurman, part of the Sudanese capital, securing all of Khartoum state nearly two months after recapturing the capital’s center.

Sudan accuses UAE of May 4 drone attacks on Port Sudan

Sudan said the United Arab Emirates was responsible for an attack on Port Sudan this month, accusing the Gulf state for the first time of direct military intervention in a war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The UAE denied the allegations in a statement and said it condemned the attack.
