Speaking to Sudan Tribune, (U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan Tom) Perriello clarified his earlier remarks that had suggested discussions with the AU about such a force. He emphasized that while the AU has a crucial role in monitoring existing agreements and potentially enforcing a future ceasefire, there are no current plans for an AU peacekeeping deployment. 

Radhouane Nouicer, the Expert designated by the UN High Commissioner for Human on the situation in Sudan, said the escalation in greater Khartoum “echoed the horrors” of the initial period of the conflict in April 2023. 

A top Sudanese general has said the army will press on with its offensive despite international efforts to broker a ceasefire in the 17-month civil war. “Peace talks can go on, but the army will not stop for that,” Assistant Commander-in-Chief Lt Gen Ibrahim Gabir told the BBC.

The United Arab Emirates said early on Monday the residence of its ambassador in Khartoum was attacked by a Sudanese military aircraft, condemning it as a "heinous attack." … The Sudanese army has repeatedly accused the UAE of providing weapons and support to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan's 17-month-old war.

Women and girls in the midst of the brutal conflict between rival militaries in Sudan are being disproportionately impacted, including 5.8 million who are now displaced, according to an alert released by UN Women on Friday.

Sudan's army launched artillery and air strikes in Sudan's capital on Thursday in its biggest operation to regain ground there since early in its 17-month war with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), witnesses and military sources said.

The civil war in Sudan is amongst the world's worst, yet it attracts fatally little diplomatic action. As international leaders meet in New York for the UN General Assembly, the body's secretary general raised the alarm about the escalation in the conflict, and a ministerial meeting tried to ramp up more support. But humanitarian leaders want to see more being tangibly done at the diplomatic level.

International cooperation is needed to deliver civilian protection, scale up humanitarian assistance, leverage the influence of regional actors, and give Sudanese civilians a role in the peace process.

A sharp escalation in fighting in Sudan’s El Fasher, along with ongoing clashes between rival military factions across the country, is heightening the risk of atrocities, including violence against women, and worsening the already dire humanitarian crisis, senior UN officials warned on Wednesday. … El Fasher, the provincial capital of North Darfur and a city of nearly one million people, has been a focal point of Sudan’s conflict.
