It sought to provide informed recommendations to both the Mozambican authorities and the African Union to support stabilisation efforts in northern Mozambique.

Personnel detached to EUMAM (the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique) logged 14 capacity building programmes involving over 450 FADM (Forcas Armadas de Defesa de Mozambique) personnel during the first half of 2025. 

The NGO Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Tuesday released a report claiming that Islamic State-linked militants from the regional Islamist terror group al-Shabab have kidnapped at least 120 children in Mozambique's northern Cabo Delgado province since the start of the year.

More than 25,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in northern Mozambique in recent weeks, as conflict and a series of disasters fuel a worsening humanitarian crisis – one that risks deepening as vital relief operations face a severe funding shortfall. … The situation is particularly dire in Cabo Delgado province, where attacks by non-state armed groups continue to drive displacement, destroy infrastructure and disrupt recovery efforts.

The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) has returned to Mozambique to present its Final Report on the General and Provincial Assembly Elections of 9 October 2024. The report provides a comprehensive analysis and assessment of the electoral process, as well as recommendations for the improvement of future elections. 

Mozambique's new President Daniel Chapo has been sworn in at a low-key ceremony in the capital, Maputo, that was marred by an opposition boycott following heavily disputed elections. 

Mozambique's opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane has returned home from exile where he has been in hiding following October's disputed presidential election that sparked deadly protests. … His return comes ahead of next week's swearing-in as president of Daniel Chapo, of the ruling Frelimo party, who was confirmed as the winner of October's poll by the constitutional court.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has called for calm in Mozambique, where post-election unrest has led to loss of lives and significant economic disruptions.

Post-election unrest in Mozambique has forced thousands of people to flee their homes. In Malawi, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the government have identified around 2,000 who crossed into the country in the past week. In neighbouring Eswatini, another 1,000 people have arrived. 

The Council adopted today a €20 million top-up to an existing assistance measure under the European Peace Facility to continue supporting the deployment of the Rwanda Defence Force in the Cabo Delgado province of Mozambique.
