ZIF and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) have signed an agreement that will enable ZIF to deploy German humanitarian experts to UNHCR from now on! UNHCR is the third UN humanitarian organization with which ZIF has concluded an agreement – so far, ZIF has deployed German humanitarian experts in humanitarian operations of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) and the World Food Programme (WFP).

With the new agreement, ZIF is strengthening its partnership with the United Nations. We are particularly pleased that we can now offer our humanitarian experts in the ZIF Expert Pool even more diverse deployment options. In preparation of the pending agreement with UNHCR, we started recruiting specific UNHCR-relevant profiles for the ZIF Expert Pool in the areas of Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) and Shelter and Site Planning in the beginning of 2021. In cooperation with the Federal Foreign Office, we are pleased to support the UNHCR mandate with our ZIF experts in the future.

Worldwide, more than 80 million people are currently fleeing persecution, war and violence. Of these 80 million people, 48 million people live as internally displaced persons in their home country. UNHCR protects and supports refugees worldwide. Seventy years ago, the Geneva Convention on Refugees was signed: the most important convention for the protection of refugees. In this anniversary year, ZIF and UNHCR are starting their standby partnership.
