Following joint development and several sessions, ZIF has successfully handed over a training programme developed specifically for the EU Mission in Armenia to the Mission.

In 2024, ZIF was commissioned to develop a ‘Conversation Techniques Training’ programme for staff and translators of the EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA).

In close consultation with the management team of the Operations Department and with staff from all six field offices, the so-called Forward Operating Bases, a training concept was developed that specifically addresses the specific challenges and composition of the mission.

From concept to on-site implementation

ZIF delivered the pilot course in an online format in spring 2025, followed by a face-to-face training session in autumn of the same year. In addition, ZIF trainers accompanied patrols on the ground to gain an even deeper understanding of the participants’ working realities.

In April 2026, the team returned to the mission to conduct another round of training.

Focus on sustainability and knowledge transfer

The main focus of the latest session was on handing over the training programme to the mission itself. Selected colleagues were trained to continue running the programme independently in future.

The initiative concluded with a workshop designed as a structured handover: from trainers to trainers.

Given the high staff turnover in missions, embedding key training content for the long term presents a particular challenge, therefore both sides have jointly considered the sustainability of the programme from the outset.

Outlook

With the successful handover, the future of the training now lies in the hands of the mission. ZIF would like to thank everyone for the trusting cooperation and wishes the colleagues at EUMA every success and enjoyment as they conduct the “Conversation Techniques Training” independently for the first time.
