ZIF delivers workshop at the Economic Community of Central African States in Libreville, Gabon

ZIF and members of the African Union are meeting in Libreville, Gabun, from 11-14 November 2019 in order to provide a workshop to colleagues of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), particularly to the new national Roster Focal Point and Chief of Civilian Component. As part of continuous efforts to strengthen the capacities of regional partners of the African Standby Capacity (ASC), the goal of this workshop is to introduce them to all relevant HR processes, the roster management and the ASC database. This includes the efficient use of the ASC roster and related recruitment processes, including the communication and coordination mechanisms with applicants, the composition of interview panels as well as the setup and documentation of competency-based interviews.

Furthermore, recommendations were given how to strengthen communication with roster applicants and how to conduct telephone-based interviews. Practical examples and role-plays further enabled the ECCAS colleagues to quickly identify, roster and administer new civilian experts in line with established HR procedures and standards.

The African Standby Capacity is the African Union's continental roster of civilian experts to be deployed into multi-dimensional AU peace support operations. It is managed jointly by the AU Commission and Regional Organizations. While military and police are deployed for AU peace operations by the member states, it is the ASC that provides the majority of civilian experts. Qualified candidates can apply for admission into the pool. ZIF supports the development of the ASC through technical implementation, strategy and project development since 2012.
