ZIF Supervisory Board constituted
Today, the constituent meeting of the Supervisory Board of the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) took place—the first since the federal elections and the change of government. With the new legislative period, the ZIF Supervisory Board has also been reconstituted.
The Chairperson of the Supervisory Board is Florian Hahn, Minister of State at the German Federal Foreign Office. The Supervisory Board also includes Daniela Ludwig, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of the Interior, Dr. Nils Schmid, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defense, and Dr. Bärbel Kofler, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.
In addition, each parliamentary group represented in the German Bundestag appoints one member to the Supervisory Board:
- Markus Koob, MP, for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group (elected by the members as Deputy Chairperson of the Supervisory Board)
- Aydan Özoğuz, MP, for the SPD parliamentary group
- Boris Mijatović, MP, for the Die Linke parliamentary group
- Stefan Keuter, MP, for the AfD parliamentary group
This structure dates back to 2002, when the German federal government and Bundestag established the ZIF. As a federal non-profit limited liability company, the Federal Republic of Germany is a shareholder in the ZIF, represented by the Federal Foreign Office. Close cooperation with representatives from the federal government and Bundestag forms the basis of the ZIF's work.
At today's meeting, Minister of State Florian Hahn and ZIF Executive Director Dr. Astrid Irrgang emphasized the importance of the ZIF for strengthening international civilian capacities in crisis prevention, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding.
