EU hands $52-million security package to Ghana

The package includes civil engineering equipment, advanced communication systems, and riverine assets including boats aimed at bolstering Ghana’s border security, intelligence-sharing, and counterterrorism efforts. It follows the EU’s delivery of 105 militarized vehicles in 2023, with further defense support scheduled through 2026.

Police officers from Germany to take part in EUSDI GoG

Federal and state police officers from Germany are to take part in the European Union’s mission in Benin, Togo, Ghana and the Ivory Coast (EU security and defence initiative in support of West African countries of the Gulf of Guinea – EUSDI GoG). Up to 15 police officers may be deployed. They will take up their work on 11 December 2023.

Council adopts assistance measure

The Council today adopted an assistance measure under the European Peace Facility worth €21 million to support the Yaoundé Architecture and strengthen the capacities of military actors and navies of selected coastal states – Ghana and Cameroon – involved in maritime security operations in the Gulf of Guinea.

European Union hands over 105 military vehicles to Ghana

To fight extremism and bolster Ghana’s peacekeeping efforts, the European Union (EU) has handed over 105 military vehicles to the West African nation. The vehicles were originally seized from a Libya-bound ship.
