The UN human rights office (OHCHR) remains “extremely worried” for the well-being of 13 UN staff and a number of NGO employees arbitrarily detained in Yemen, spokesperson Jeremy Laurence said on Tuesday, demanding their unconditional release.

The Security Council today decided to extend, until 14 July 2025, the mandate of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA), which was established on 16 January 2019 following intra-Yemeni peace consultations held in Stockholm, Sweden.

The heads of six U.N. agencies and three international humanitarian organizations issued a joint appeal Thursday to Yemen’s Houthi rebels for the immediate release of 17 members of their staff who were recently detained along with many others also being held by the Iranian-backed group.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on Tuesday for the immediate release of all United Nations staff held in Yemen by the de facto Houthi authorities, following the detention of 13 of the Organization’s personnel.  

Several delegates call on Houthis to stops attacking vessels transiting Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, urged scaled-up humanitarian aid amid spike in cholera, malnutrition.

The UN Special Envoy for Yemen on Thursday emphasized the urgent need for a nationwide ceasefire and measures to improve living conditions in the war-ravaged country. … “Although we have tried to shield the peace process from regional developments since the war in Gaza, the reality is … that what happens regionally impacts Yemen - and what happens in Yemen can impact the region,” he added.

The shockwaves from the war in Gaza continue to reverberate across the wider Middle East region, with the situation in Yemen much more complex than it was a few months ago, the UN Special Envoy for the country said on Wednesday.

The German navy frigate "Hessen" set sail on Thursday from the North Sea port of Wilhelmshaven toward the Red Sea to join a planned European Union mission to protect ships from Houthi attacks. … Officials said the frigate is on the way with around 240 staff on board, with the aim of having it in place once the EU and German parliament greenlight the mandate for the mission.

Houthi forces in Yemen continue to disrupt shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden with further attacks against civil and military vessels.

The United States and Britain launched new strikes on Yemen’s Houthis Monday, saying their second round of joint military action against the Iran-backed rebels was in response to continued attacks on Red Sea shipping.
