On the heels of recent positive developments, the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Libya pointed to renewed hope for peace in the conflict-affected country, and stability across the wider region, in a briefing to the Security Council on Friday.

As part of ongoing consultations with Libyan interlocutors, UNSMIL reported Assistant Secretary-General and UNSMIL Coordinator Raisedon Zenenga met virtually yesterday with representatives of civil society from all regions of Libya.

Today the office of the European Union Mission to Libya reopened in Tripoli.

Najla al-Manqoush, foreign minister of Libya’s interim government, urged Turkey on Monday to implement UN Security Council resolutions demanding the repatriation of more than 20,000 foreign fighters and mercenaries from Libya.

The Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Jan Kubis concluded Tuesday his first visit to the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, in which he discussed strengthening the UN-AU cooperation in support of Libya and the region.

The head of Libya’s new interim government, Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Monday for talks aimed at boosting cooperation between their nations.
