Russia plans election meddling to obstruct Moldova’s EU path: spy chief

The head of the Moldovan Intelligence and Security Service said he has information indicating that Russia plans to interfere in polls in 2024 and 2025 to obstruct the country’s progress towards European Union membership.

Transdniester separatists ask Russia for 'protection' at end of meeting Chisinau rejects as 'scam'

The leadership of Transdniester has called on Russia to take measures to "protect" the breakaway region from what it said was increasing pressure from Moldova's pro-Western government that amounted to an "economic war." The call was launched during a rare gathering on February 28 in Tiraspol of the separatist region's leadership summoned by separatist leader Vadim Krasnoselski and dubbed the Congress of the Transdniestrian People's Deputies.

Moldova government to appeal as court scraps ban on oligarch’s party

The Chisinau Court of Appeal on Tuesday annulled the decision of the Commission for Exceptional Situations, CSE, made two days before the November 5 local elections, banning the “Sansa” [Chance] party, affiliated to the fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, from the elections. The government announced that it would appeal to the Supreme Court of Justice against this decision in order to protect national security from organised criminal groups trying to influence political life in the country.

Journalists’ access to public information declining in Moldova – Freedom House

Moldova registered a notable decline in the processing of requests for information of public interest, according to the Freedom House Report 2023, “Measuring Transparency of Public Institutions in Moldova”. According to the report, public institutions scored 38 per cent compared to 45 per cent in 2022, measured on the threefold criteria of legislation, proactive transparency and access upon request.
